Terms of Service
Last updated 14 September 2026. These terms apply when you accept a quotation from us.
Keep this current. This set of terms is a working draft written for an Indian packers-and-movers business. Before you go live, have it reviewed by your own legal adviser and replace the bracketed details with your registered particulars. Edit it in Admin → Pages, not in the source.
1. These terms
They govern the relocation services Shifto Packers & Movers provides to you. A contract forms when you accept a quotation in writing — by signing it, confirming it in your customer portal, or paying the booking advance. Where a signed service agreement says something different, that agreement prevails.
2. Quotations
A quotation is valid for 15 days and is based on the scope recorded at survey or described by you. It is a fixed price for that scope. If the scope changes — items added that were not surveyed, a date moved into a peak slot, or access materially different from what was described — we will issue a revised figure for your approval before continuing. We will not add an unapproved charge to your final invoice.
3. What is included
What is included is what the quotation lists, line by line. Standard household moves include packing material, packing, dismantling and reassembly of standard modular furniture, loading, transport, unloading and removal of packing debris. Specialist work — fitted kitchens, air conditioners, geysers, wall-mounted televisions, chandeliers, pianos, safes — is a priced add-on.
4. Your responsibilities
- Give us accurate information about what is being moved and about access at both ends.
- Keep documents, jewellery, cash, medicines and irreplaceable items with you. We do not knowingly carry them and we do not accept liability for them.
- Obtain any society, building or municipal permission needed for a vehicle to park and a crew to work, and tell us about time restrictions.
- Be present, or nominate someone in writing, at packing, loading and delivery, and check and sign the inventory at both ends.
- Not hand us prohibited goods (section 5).
5. Goods we cannot carry
Inflammables including gas cylinders, petrol, diesel, paint, thinners and aerosols; explosives and firearms; corrosives; illegal goods; perishable food; and currency, bullion or securities. If such goods are found in a consignment we may remove them and charge the reasonable cost of doing so, and we accept no liability for them or for damage they cause.
6. Dates and delays
Delivery estimates are given as a range and are estimates, not guarantees. We will tell you promptly if one changes, and why. We are not liable for delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control — weather, road closures, strikes, civil unrest, accidents, or an act or omission of a government authority — but a delay caused by our own failure is dealt with under section 8.
7. Payment
The payment schedule is stated on your quotation: typically an advance to confirm the date, an instalment on loading and the balance on delivery. GST is charged at the applicable rate and shown separately. We may withhold delivery of goods against unpaid sums lawfully due. Overdue business invoices may carry interest at the rate stated on the invoice.
8. Liability and claims
We take reasonable care of your goods and are liable for loss or damage caused by our negligence. Note the limits that apply: damage must be recorded on the delivery sheet at delivery or reported within the claim window on your booking; our liability for goods you packed yourself is limited to visible external damage to the carton; we are not liable for pre-existing damage, for mechanical or electrical failure with no external cause, or for normal wear. Where you have taken transit insurance, the insurer's terms and the declared value govern the settlement. Where you have not, our liability is limited to the amount stated on your quotation. Neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss.
9. Cancellation
Cancellation and refunds are governed by our refund policy, which forms part of these terms.
10. Your account
Keep your password confidential and tell us at once if you think it has been compromised. We may suspend an account used for fraud, abuse of our staff, or attempts to attack the service.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at [city], and we both agree to attempt good-faith resolution through our grievance process before commencing proceedings.
